Kitchen and Backyard Puppets

Did you just wake up from a nap? Do you need a cup of tea...and a tiny puppet show? Marji collects scraps from her kitchen and backyard to make puppets for dainty tabletop performances for audiences of one or two. To the right is an island queen made from lychee skin, philodendron roots, bamboo, and cheesecloth. She lives in a coconut shell on a hot, sunbleached island with her sad, caped husband. Their little drama is accompanied by the sounds of jawharp, egg shaker, bottle caps and music box. This quiet little project is inspired by the elusive, gorgeous Divadlo Srny in the Czech Republic.
